The Wind Waker shows the adventure of the hero, Link, as an inhabitant of an island in an ocean known as the Great Sea. Link's birthday is interrupted when a large bird, fighting a band of pirates, drops a girl into the island's woods. Link rescues the girl, but returns from the woods only to see the bird kidnap his sister Aryll.

Link's journey to rescue Aryll becomes a much larger mission to destroy a centries-old evil from a great kingdom known only in legends.
